Three Places to Escape the Cold This Christmas
With August behind us, we’re officially heading towards colder days. Which makes this a very good time to find somewhere warmer to look forward to.
Don’t get us wrong, we love winter. But every now and then, it’s nice to swap the layers for sandals, shorts and a shirt, without giving the temperature a second thought. Christmas happens to fall rather conveniently right in the middle of the cold season.
So, we’ve picked three warmer alternatives for Christmas this year. They work equally well for an autumn escape, if December feels a little too far away.

Thailand: Banyan Tree Koh Samui
We’ve recommended Banyan Tree Koh Samui before and sent guests here, and for good reason.
The resort sits in a beautiful bay on the southeast coast of Koh Samui, close to Lamai. Every accommodation is a private villa with its own infinity pool, surrounded by tropical greenery and views towards the sea.
There’s also a private beach, an award-winning spa, several restaurants and the kind of service you’d expect from Banyan Tree.
Prices in December from NOK 9,000 per night for two adults, excluding flights and transfers.

Vietnam: InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort
Set on the Son Tra Peninsula outside Da Nang, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is surrounded by lush rainforest and overlooks a private bay with 700 metres of coastline.
The resort was designed by renowned architect Bill Bensley, with Vietnamese architectural references throughout his distinctive design.
There are several restaurants, including Michelin-starred La Maison 1888, a spa, and a wide selection of rooms, suites and villas overlooking either the sea or rainforest.
Prices in December from NOK 5200 per night for two adults, excluding flights and transfers.
Zanzibar: Park Hyatt Zanzibar
Christmas is also a great time to be in Zanzibar. December falls within one of the island’s warmer periods, think tropical temperatures, warm water and considerably less need for wool.
Park Hyatt Zanzibar sits right on the seafront in the heart of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Historic streets, markets and cultural sights are just outside the hotel, while the Indian Ocean is on the other side.
The hotel is a restored historic building with contemporary interiors and offers elegant rooms and suites, a spa, infinity pool and restaurants overlooking the ocean.
Prices in December from NOK 7200 per night for two adults, excluding flights and transfers.
Journeys can of course take care of the entire journey from departure to return, including flights, transfers and everything in between.
